I watched this on Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which one of the many DIRECTV channels that we have in our programming. This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and I highly recommend it for your viewing pleasure.
Cary Grant stars in this classic comical film and plays Mortimer Brewster, an author that writes books against marriage, although he has just been married. He and his bride wish to stop over and break the news to Mortimer’s two sweet aunts, Abby and Martha. He also has a deranged uncle, who believes he is Teddy Roosevelt and lives with Abby and Martha. These two sweet women operate a boarding house that caters to elderly men. However, Mortimer stumbles upon a well kept secret – they’re poisoning these old gentlemen and burying them in the cellar! Of course, the unhinged uncle takes care of the burying of the bodies.
The more the story unfolds, the more hilarious it becomes! Mortimer is torn between his love for his aunts, the insanity of the situation and the overwhelming shock of it all. After all, Martha and Abby feel they are doing these lonely souls a kind service and putting them out of their misery. It is a wonderful example of dastardly deeds being confused with good intentions.
If you love Cary Grant, this is a must see movie! It is amazing to me how such a case could be taken and turned into one of the best comedies I have ever come across.
This movie will air from time to time on TCM or American Movie Classics (AMC), which is another wonderful choice from DIRECTV Channels.
